EU Approves €1 Billion Ammunition Support for Ukraine to Counter Russian Aggression

The Council of the European Union has approved a €1 billion assistance measure under the European Peace Facility (EPF) to support the Ukrainian Armed Forces. This measure will allow EU member states to be reimbursed for ammunition donated to Ukraine from existing stocks or reprioritized orders between February 9th and May 31st, 2023. This decision implements the first part of a three-track approach to accelerate the delivery and joint procurement of artillery ammunition. With this measure, the total EU contribution to Ukraine under the EPF reaches €4.6 billion, demonstrating the EU’s continued support for Ukraine’s defense against Russian aggression. The EPF was established in 2021 to support military and defense efforts globally to prevent conflict and strengthen international security. The EU remains steadfast in supporting Ukraine’s independence, sovereignty, and right to self-defense against Russian aggression.
