Finnish Citizenship Grants Show a Notable Increase in 2022

Statistics Finland has recently released data indicating that the number of foreign residents granted Finnish citizenship has risen significantly in 2022. The report indicates that 10,198 foreign citizens who are permanently residing in Finland were granted Finnish citizenship in 2022, which is 3,555 more than in 2021. This translates to a significant increase of 54 percent in relative terms.

Among those granted Finnish citizenship in 2022, one in five was a Russian citizen. The number of dual nationality holders in Finland is also noteworthy, with almost 160,000 residents having two citizenships. The report provides a line chart displaying the trend in Finnish citizenship grants from 1990 to 2022, showing a peak of over 12,000 grants in 2017.

These statistics were gathered through detailed analysis of national accounts data by Statistics Finland and provide valuable insights into the demographic trends of the country.
