Statistics Finland has recently released data indicating that the number of foreign residents granted Finnish citizenship has risen significantly in 2022. The report indicates that 10,198 foreign citizens who are permanently residing in Finland were granted Finnish citizenship in 2022, which is 3,555 more than in 2021. This translates to a significant increase of 54 percent in relative terms.
Among those granted Finnish citizenship in 2022, one in five was a Russian citizen. The number of dual nationality holders in Finland is also noteworthy, with almost 160,000 residents having two citizenships.
