Sunny weather, enthusiastic crowds, and joyful faces. The Army’s 500-year celebration at Gärdet in Stockholm exceeded all expectations. “The immense defense interest among Swedes is evident,” stated Army Chief Karl Engelbrektson.
Hundreds of thousands of curious visitors flocked to witness the historical and future significance of the Army. From parades and armored vehicle displays to face painting and combat demonstrations, the event captivated attendees throughout the day.
Taking place at Ladugårdsgärdet in Stockholm, the Army’s presence dominated the landscape for over nine hours. Police estimated that more than 100,000 people attended the celebration, creating an incredible atmosphere.
Despite the focus on showcasing the Army’s prowess, a real-life emergency unfolded the night before. Soldiers from the Göta Engineering Regiment, Ing 2, spotted a fire in a neighboring inn’s ventilation system. Their swift action and the subsequent arrival of firefighters prevented a major disaster, according to the fire department.
As the event concluded, a delighted and grateful Army Chief expressed his satisfaction. “Today has been a wonderful day to lead this branch of defense. I’m impressed by everyone who contributed in various ways. Thank you all,” remarked Karl Engelbrektson.
