Denmark’s Average Household Shows Steady Sports Consumption

A recent survey reveals that the average household in Denmark has maintained a consistent level of sports consumption over the years, reflecting the nation’s enthusiasm for athletic activities. The data from 2017 to 2021 sheds light on the household consumption of sports-related products and services, providing valuable insights into consumer behavior.

According to the survey, the number of households participating in the study remained relatively stable, with 2,253 households surveyed in 2021. These households represent a sample size within the broader Danish population, which consisted of approximately 2,845,000 households in 2021.

In terms of total consumption, households in Denmark spent a substantial amount, reaching DKK 322,634 million in 2021. Within this overall consumption figure, sports-related expenses accounted for a notable portion, totaling DKK 3,959 million. This demonstrates the significance of sports consumption in Danish households.

When examining specific categories of sports consumption, clothing and shoes emerged as a popular choice among households, with expenditures increasing over the years. In 2021, Danish households spent DKK 2,139 million on sports-related clothing and footwear, compared to DKK 2,032 million in 2017. Membership fees and entrance costs for sports activities constituted another significant component of sports consumption. Although there was a slight decline in 2020, with expenditures amounting to DKK 1,154 million, the figure rebounded in 2021 to DKK 1,073 million. This suggests that Danish households continue to value and invest in various memberships and access to sports facilities.
