Employment in April 2023 remained stable at a high level in Germany, continuing the upward trend seen over the past year. According to data released by the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis), approximately 45.7 million individuals residing in Germany were employed during this period.
The seasonally adjusted figures showed a marginal increase of 15,000 persons (0.0%) compared to March 2023. Although the growth rate was lower than in previous months, which saw increases of 56,000 and 57,000 in February and March respectively, the overall trend remains positive.
In a year-on-year comparison, employment levels in April 2023 were up by 0.9% compared to the same month the previous year.
Turning to unemployment, the labour force survey indicated that 1.41 million people were unemployed in April 2023, representing an increase of 19,000 individuals (1.4%) compared to April 2022. The unemployment rate remained unchanged at 3.2% during this period.
After adjusting for seasonal and irregular effects, the number of unemployed individuals stood at 1.30 million, indicating a decrease of 6,000 people (0.4%) compared to March 2023. The adjusted unemployment rate in April 2023 remained steady at 2.9%.
