In April 2023, there was a significant decline in agricultural producer prices in France compared to the previous year. The prices dropped by 6.7% after a 1.3% decrease in March 2023. However, despite the decline, the prices remained 22.2% higher than they were in April 2021.
Over the course of one month, excluding fresh fruits and vegetables, agricultural producer prices continued to fall, showing a decrease of 2.0% after a 1.9% drop.
The input purchase prices also experienced a decline of 1.6% within a month, following a decrease of 0.8%. However, compared to the previous year, the decline was less significant, with prices slowing down by 0.4% after experiencing a 3.2% and 10.9% increase in the previous months. Overall, input purchase prices were still 25.3% higher than they were in April 2021.
Cereal prices saw a sharp decline both within a month and compared to the previous year. In April 2023, cereal prices fell by 7.0% within a month and by 34.8% compared to the previous year. This decline was mainly attributed to the appreciation of the euro against the dollar and favorable weather conditions. However, despite the decline, cereal prices were still 14.5% higher than in April 2021.
Oil seed prices also continued to decrease in April 2023, albeit at a slower pace compared to March. Within a month, oil seed prices fell by 7.8%, primarily driven by the decrease in soybean prices (-11.1%), rapeseed prices (-8.4%), and sunflower prices (-3.8%). Year on year, oil seed prices experienced a substantial decline of 54.5%.
