According to the latest survey conducted in Great Britain, adults continue to highlight key issues facing the UK. The cost of living, the National Health Service (NHS), the economy, and climate change and the environment are the most commonly reported concerns.
A significant 91% of adults identified the cost of living as a pressing issue, emphasizing the financial strain experienced by many. The NHS also remains a top concern, with 83% expressing worries about its current state. The economy, including issues such as employment and financial stability, follows closely at 75%. Climate change and the environment were identified as important by 62% of respondents, underscoring the growing awareness of environmental challenges.
The survey revealed that 62% of adults reported an increase in their cost of living compared to the previous month. However, this proportion has gradually decreased since April 2023 when it stood at 76%. Among those experiencing an increase, the most commonly cited reasons were higher food prices (97%), increased gas or electricity bills (64%), rising fuel costs (39%), and escalated rent or mortgage expenses (23%).
The survey also examined personal well-being, uncovering concerning figures. Approximately 26% of adults reported feeling lonely often, always, or some of the time. Within this group, 6% experienced loneliness often or always, while 20% felt lonely some of the time. Moreover, around 31% of adults reported high levels of anxiety, highlighting the mental health challenges faced by many.
When assessing life satisfaction and happiness, the survey indicated that 11% of adults reported low levels of happiness, while 9% expressed low levels of life satisfaction. Additionally, 7% of respondents felt that the things they did in life were not worthwhile.
Notably, estimates of loneliness levels among adults have remained relatively stable over time, suggesting an ongoing need for support and attention to combat social isolation. Detailed data on personal well-being and loneliness trends can be found in the personal well-being and loneliness dataset.
The survey results reflect the ongoing concerns and challenges faced by adults in Great Britain. The cost of living, NHS, economy, and climate change continue to dominate the public discourse, while loneliness, anxiety, and lower levels of life satisfaction remain prevalent. These findings provide valuable insights into the well-being of individuals and can inform policies and initiatives aimed at improving the lives of UK citizens.
