Jakarta, May 10, 2023 – An examination of import volumes in Indonesia during the first five months of 2023 reveals significant changes compared to the corresponding period in 2022. The Ministry of Trade has provided data on both the migas (oil and gas) and non-migas (non-oil and gas) components, allowing for a comprehensive analysis presented in percentages.
In the migas sector, import volumes in 2023 have shown a remarkable increase. In January 2023, the import volume surged by approximately 36% compared to January 2022. This positive trend continued in February, March, April, and May of 2023, with import volumes experiencing growth rates of approximately 14%, 8%, 2%, and 38%, respectively. Cumulatively, the import volume for the migas sector during the first five months of 2023 increased by about 52% compared to the same period in 2022.
Similarly, the non-migas sector exhibited substantial growth in import volumes in 2023. In January 2023, import volume saw an increase of approximately 17% compared to January 2022. This trend continued with growth rates of approximately 14%, 13%, 13%, and 36% in February, March, April, and May of 2023, respectively. The cumulative import volume for the non-migas sector during the first five months of 2023 witnessed a growth rate of approximately 28% compared to the corresponding period in 2022.
Considering the overall import scenario in Indonesia, including both migas and non-migas components, the total import volume for the first five months of 2023 experienced a growth rate of approximately 22% compared to the same period in 2022.
These import volume comparisons underscore the increasing demand for both energy and non-energy components in Indonesia, reflecting the country’s economic activities and its commitment to meeting domestic requirements. The Ministry of Trade will continue to closely monitor these import trends and utilize the data to inform policies that support the nation’s economic development.
