Norway Witnesses a Dip in Petroleum Product Sales While Embracing Liquid Biofuels

Norway’s sales of petroleum products and liquid biofuels have experienced notable changes, as revealed by the latest statistics from May 2023. The data showcases a significant decline in the sales of petroleum products for road traffic compared to the previous year, while liquid biofuels make strides in the market.

Change in Fuel Sale for Road Traffic – May 2022 to May 2023:

In the period from May 2022 to May 2023, fuel sales for road traffic witnessed a decrease of 4.6%. The sales of petroleum products, including motor gasoline and auto diesel, have been impacted by this downward trend. However, despite this overall dip, liquid biofuels are on the rise, presenting a promising alternative for the nation’s transport needs.

Monthly and Yearly Sales Figures:

For the month of May 2023, the total sales of petroleum products amounted to 682 million liters, reflecting a 6.7% decline from the same month the previous year. On a yearly basis, the final figures for 2022 show a total sales volume of 8,954 million liters, marking an 8.0% decrease compared to the previous year.

Detailed Sales Breakdown:

  • Fuel for road traffic experienced a reduction of 4.6% in sales, reaching 310 million liters for the month of May 2023. The yearly sales volume for 2022 reached 3,806 million liters, showing a slight decline of 0.9%.
  • Motor gasoline, a prominent petroleum product, saw a 3.8% increase in May 2023, with sales reaching 83 million liters. However, in the yearly comparison, it faced a 4.1% decrease, with a sales volume of 917 million liters in 2022.
  • Auto diesel, both dutiable and free of duty, faced a decrease of 7.3% and 2.7% in May 2023, respectively. The yearly sales volumes for 2022 were 2,889 million liters and 892 million liters, with minimal changes of 0.1% and -6.3%.
  • Sales of marine gas oil and diesel experienced a significant drop of 12.3% in May 2023, with 178 million liters sold. However, the yearly figures for 2022 indicate a 4.5% growth, with total sales reaching 2,041 million liters.
  • Jet kerosene witnessed a notable surge of 7.8% in sales for May 2023, reaching 83 million liters. The yearly figures for 2022 show remarkable growth of 78.3%, with a total sales volume of 981 million liters.
