Inflation in June 2023 in the Netherlands was reported at 5.7 percent, based on a quick estimate using incomplete data. This means consumer prices were 5.7 percent higher than in June 2022. However, the June inflation of 5.7 percent does not add to the 6.1 percent inflation recorded in May.
The Consumer Price Index (CPI) will be officially published on July 11, providing a comprehensive overview of price changes for consumer goods and services.
The inflation trend in recent months has been as follows:
- March 2023: 4.4 percent
- April 2023: 5.2 percent
- May 2023: 6.1 percent
- June 2023: 5.7 percent
Notably, the inflation rate in June 2023 was calculated using a new method for measuring and processing energy prices, leading to a more accurate CPI calculation. This change resulted in a “methodological break” between June 2023 and June 2022 inflation figures.
It is important to mention that the European Harmonized Index of Consumer Prices (HICP), which does not consider the costs of living in one’s own home, showed a 6.4 percent inflation rate in the Netherlands for June 2023, compared to 6.8 percent in May 2023. Eurostat and the European Central Bank use the HICP to assess inflation for the Eurozone, while individual countries may use their national price indices.
