Continuing Investment in Efficient and Environmentally Friendly Ports in Norway

The government allocates 64 million NOK in grants for five new port projects along the coast.

“Ports are essential for value creation and settlement along the coast. State support for investments in efficient and environmentally friendly ports is a highly effective tool to ensure better logistics,” says Minister of Fisheries and Coastal Affairs, Bjørnar Skjæran (Labor Party).

For 2023, a total of 24 projects have applied for support, with all the projects collectively seeking just over 400 million NOK.

“This is a focus area for the government. One of the first things the government did was to strengthen the grant scheme, and we further enhanced it in the revised national budget. In total, there is now 118 million NOK available for efficient and environmentally friendly ports. These funds open up opportunities for even more projects than before, and the Coastal Administration (Kystverket) will announce new competitions as early as this autumn. Now, I hope that coastal municipalities are ready,” says Minister Skjæran.

The Coastal Administration manages the grant scheme. The funds are distributed in several rounds; in June, commitments were made to one-year projects, and now, commitments for two-year projects will follow.

Additionally, the Coastal Administration plans to announce new competitions for commitments for the budget years 2024 and 2025 this fall.
