EU Commissioner Simson Praises Fluxys’ Hydrogen-Ready Pipeline during On-Site Visit
In a recent speech, EU Energy Commissioner Kadri Simson expressed her admiration for Fluxys’ hydrogen-ready pipeline during an on-site visit to the facility. Commissioner Simson commended Fluxys for its role in diversifying Belgium and other Member States away from Russian gas pipeline supplies and highlighted the company’s plans for the future.
Fluxys’ hydrogen-ready pipeline will play a crucial part in the establishment of new EU-wide hydrogen corridors. These corridors will not only connect industrial hubs across the European Union but also contribute to the decarbonization of various sectors, including refineries, chemical sites, fertilizer production, and steel production. Commissioner Simson acknowledged the importance of such initiatives in achieving a cleaner and more prosperous future for Europe.
As the EU Energy Commissioner, Commissioner Simson pledged her support for the transition towards hydrogen and renewable gases. The Commission is in the process of finalizing new laws on gas and hydrogen decarbonization, which will provide a solid framework for market players in the hydrogen sector to operate and own hydrogen infrastructure. These regulations will offer a strong foundation for Fluxys to continue its growth and attract cutting-edge hydrogen infrastructure projects.
Commissioner Simson emphasized the significance of importing renewable hydrogen into the EU, as the region’s hydrogen needs are projected to exceed domestic production by 2030. To position the EU as a global leader in the energy transition, ambitious hydrogen import targets have been set. Projects like Fluxys’ hydrogen-ready pipeline will be instrumental in establishing the world’s first hydrogen market and enhancing European competitiveness.
The energy transition necessitates cooperation across the entire supply chain, both within countries and across European borders. Commissioner Simson highlighted the importance of visionary projects like Fluxys’ pipeline, which sets an example for sustainable and innovative energy solutions. She concluded her speech by expressing her gratitude for the opportunity to witness the progress firsthand and commended Fluxys for its contribution to a cleaner and more sustainable Europe.
Fluxys’ hydrogen-ready pipeline represents a significant milestone in Europe’s journey towards a decarbonized future, and Commissioner Simson’s visit served to reinforce the EU’s commitment to supporting and accelerating the growth of hydrogen infrastructure across the continent.
