Bilateral Defense Cooperation Between Finland and Sweden Deepens

Finland’s Defense Minister, Antti Häkkänen, paid a visit to Sweden, where he met with his Swedish counterpart, Defense Minister Pål Jonson. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss various important matters, including Sweden’s upcoming NATO membership and the continued support of both countries towards Ukraine. The ministers expressed their commitment to further enhancing and strengthening their bilateral defense cooperation, not only within the framework of Nordic defense collaboration but also through future collaboration within NATO. The deteriorated security situation due to Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine was also a key topic of discussion. Both ministers agreed on the urgent need to address the challenges posed by Russia’s actions. They affirmed their unwavering support for Ukraine and emphasized their determination to continue providing assistance as long as it is necessary. The visit marked an important step in solidifying the defense ties between Finland and Sweden and underscored their shared commitment to regional stability and security.
