New data released by the Netherlands reveals a promising increase in the adoption of emission-free commercial vehicles. According to Table 1, as of January 1, 2023, there are a total of 13,965 emission-free business vehicles for goods transport, accounting for 1.2% of the total. The breakdown by vehicle type shows that there are 13,622 emission-free vans, 236 emission-free trucks, 42 emission-free tractor units, and 65 emission-free special vehicles.
Furthermore, Table 2 provides insights into the number of vehicle kilometers traveled by emission-free commercial vehicles in 2021. The data shows that these vehicles covered a total of 79.8 million kilometers, representing 0.3% of the total kilometers traveled by business vehicles for goods transport. Specifically, emission-free vans accounted for 77.8 million kilometers, while emission-free trucks, tractor units, and special vehicles contributed 1.4 million, 0.4 million, and 0.2 million kilometers, respectively.
In addition, Table 3 offers a breakdown of emission-free business vehicles by industry sector based on the Standard Industrial Classification (Sbi08). Notably, the public sector, including openbaar bestuur en overheidsdiensten, displayed the highest adoption rate with 907 emission-free vehicles, representing 5.7% of the total. Other notable sectors include energy supply with 82 vehicles (3.2%), transportation and storage with 2,123 vehicles (1.8%), and trade with 2,530 vehicles (1.2%).
These statistics demonstrate the Netherlands’ commitment to sustainable transportation and reducing emissions in the commercial vehicle sector. The increasing adoption of emission-free vehicles across various industries is a positive step toward achieving environmental goals and promoting a greener future.
