2023 2nd Quarter Livestock Trend Survey Results Press Release

The Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry announced the results of the 2023 2nd Quarter Livestock Trend Survey. The survey, conducted as of June 1st, reveals the following changes in livestock population compared to the same period last year:

  • Beef Cattle: There was a decrease of 48,000 head (1.3%), with a total of 3.686 million head.
  • Dairy Cows: The population declined by 5,000 head (1.4%) to 383,000 head.
  • Swine: There was a reduction of 58,000 head (0.5%), bringing the total to 1.108 million head.
  • Laying Hens: The population increased by 2.117 million head (2.9%), reaching a total of 75.194 million head.
  • Meat Chickens: There was an increase of 4.615 million head (4.3%), with a total of 1.1089 billion head.
  • Ducks: The population decreased by 947,000 head (9.7%), resulting in a total of 88.166 million head.

These figures indicate fluctuations in livestock populations during the 2nd quarter of 2023, reflecting various factors affecting the livestock industry in Korea. The Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry will continue to closely monitor the livestock trends and implement appropriate measures to support the sustainable development of the livestock sector.
