Istat Releases Statistics on Building Permits – Year 2022

Istat (Italian National Institute of Statistics) presents the results of the survey on building permits for the year 2022.

Starting from the 2020 edition, the process of imputing missing responses has been completely revamped. The 2020 tables are available for consultation on the Istat website.

Furthermore, to enable intertemporal comparisons, alongside the release of the 2021 tables, the reconstruction of the 2010-2019 tables has also been published based on the new procedure for imputing missing responses.

As a guide to using the 2022 tables, it is emphasized that the 72 data tables are organized into three distinct groups: introductory, residential construction, and non-residential construction.

The first group (tables from a.1 to a.4) contains summary tables that provide historical series from 2012 to 2022 for the main variables at the national level. The second and third groups consist of analytical tables for the year 2022 only. The second group includes tables related to the residential component (from 1.1 to 1.36), while the third group includes those for the non-residential component (from 2.1 to 2.32). The presented results refer to new buildings and volume extensions of pre-existing buildings. In each group, the tables for new buildings precede those for extensions.

In addition to national data, territorial analysis is available up to the provincial level for the main variables related to both components.

Since January 2010, the data collection process for building permits has been completely renewed, introducing three new models: ISTAT/PDC/NEG, ISTAT/PDC/RE for collecting data on residential construction, and ISTAT/PDC/NRE for non-residential construction. These last two models replace the one used from 2000 to 2009.
