Finland saw a remarkable surge in new car registrations in July 2023, with a total of 6,397 new passenger cars being registered, marking a significant 16% increase compared to the previous year. The data, released by the Finnish Statistical Center, also revealed that a total of 10,850 new vehicles were registered in July, showing an overall positive trend in the automotive sector. New car registrations rose by 5% compared to the same month in the preceding year.
The statistics highlight a notable shift in the choice of propulsion systems among Finnish car buyers. The popularity of traditional gasoline and diesel-powered vehicles witnessed a decline, whereas the demand for electric vehicles experienced a substantial upswing.
A closer look at the figures indicates that during July 2023, 27% of the newly registered passenger cars were fully electric vehicles (EVs). A total of 1,702 electric cars were registered in that month alone, nearly double the number registered during the same period in the previous year. This surge in electric vehicle registrations signifies a growing awareness and preference for eco-friendly transportation options among Finnish consumers.
The data also showed that the trend in EV adoption has been consistent throughout the year. From January to July 2023, a total of 53,274 new passenger cars were registered, representing a 9% increase from the corresponding period in the preceding year.
On the other hand, the market for used individual-imported passenger cars experienced a slight decline. A total of 3,719 used cars were registered in July 2023, reflecting a 5% decrease compared to the previous year.
The Finnish automotive industry’s positive momentum, particularly the surging interest in electric cars, is seen as a favorable indicator for the country’s efforts to promote sustainable and environmentally-friendly mobility solutions.
