Decline of 3.0% in Overnight Stays in Non-Hotel Tourist Accommodations

According to the latest Survey of Occupancy in Non-Hotel Tourist Accommodations (EOAT) for June 2023, there has been a 3.0% decline in overnight stays compared to the same month in 2022. This data presents a challenge for the tourism sector, which continues to face difficulties due to the ongoing pandemic.

However, the survey also highlights that cumulative overnight stays since January have experienced a positive growth of 9.1%. Moreover, these figures are 7.4% higher compared to the same period in 2019, suggesting a gradual recovery of non-hotel tourism in the country.

Data on Camping Tourism

In particular, camping sites have experienced mixed changes in June 2023:

  • Overnight Stays: A total of 4,885,383 overnight stays were recorded in camping sites during the month, representing a slight decrease of 0.36% compared to the previous year.
  • Average Stay: The average number of days tourists spent in camping sites has increased to 3.99 days, indicating a significant rise of 0.87%.
  • Occupancy Rate per Plot: Although the occupancy rate remains considerable, there has been a decrease of 0.78% compared to June of the previous year, reaching 40.62%.
  • Camping Prices: Camping prices have also experienced an increase, reaching an index of 188.94, representing a rise of 4.89% compared to the previous year.

Despite the current challenges, the tourism sector is showing resilience and adaptability. With the ongoing improvements in the health situation, it is expected that these figures will continue to improve, and tourism in Spain may fully recover in the coming months.
