Largely Unchanged Household Consumption in June 2023 in Sweden

New statistics released by Statistics Sweden (SCB) indicate that household consumption decreased by 0.1 percent in June 2023 compared to May 2023, in seasonally adjusted terms. When compared to June 2022, household consumption decreased by 1.7 percent in calendar-adjusted figures and fixed prices. During the second quarter of 2023, consumption decreased by 1.4 percent in fixed prices and calendar-adjusted terms, compared to the same period the previous year.

The industry group that primarily impacted household consumption negatively was Housing, Electricity, Gas, and Heating, which decreased by 2.6 percent in fixed prices compared to the same period the previous year.

The industry group that positively influenced household consumption was mainly Postal and Telecommunications, which increased by 12.5 percent in fixed prices compared to the same period the previous year.

The data for June 2023 is preliminary. Since the previous publication, household consumption in May 2023 compared to April 2023 (in seasonally adjusted terms) has been revised downward by 0.3 percentage points to a decline of 0.4 percent. Consumption in May 2023 compared to the previous May (in calendar-adjusted terms) has been revised downward by 0.6 percentage points to a decline of 1.7 percent.
