Brazil’s service volume experienced a 0.2% variation in June compared to May, with a 1.4% growth in May. The sector is 12.1% above the pre-pandemic level of February 2020 but 1.5% below December 2022’s peak.
In a non-seasonally adjusted series, compared to June 2022, the service volume grew by 4.1%, marking its 28th consecutive positive rate. The year-to-date accumulation reached 4.7%, compared to the same period in 2022. The accumulation over the last 12 months decreased from 6.4% in May to 6.2% in June 2023.
Positive variations were seen in professional, administrative, and complementary services (0.8%), services provided to families (1.9%), and information and communication (0.5%). Transportation (-0.3%) and other services (-0.4%) experienced declines in June.
Comparing June 2023 to June 2022, the service volume increased by 4.1%, its 28th consecutive positive rate. Four out of five reporting activities showed increases, and 59.6% of the 166 types of services investigated experienced growth.
The transportation, auxiliary transportation services, and mail sector (4.7%) contributed positively, with increased revenue in segments like road cargo transport and passenger air transport. Other advances came from information and communication (5.6%), professional, administrative, and complementary services (3.5%), and services provided to families (5.8%).
Tourism activities varied by -0.4% in June. In June 2023, the volume of passenger transportation in Brazil decreased by 1.2% compared to the previous month, while cargo transportation volume grew by 0.6%.
