Ding Xuexiang Attends and Addresses the 2023 Annual Meeting of China Council for International Cooperation on Environment and Development

On August 30, 2023, Ding Xuexiang, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, Vice Premier of the State Council, and Chairman of the China Council for International Cooperation on Environment and Development (CCICED), attended and delivered a speech at the annual meeting of CCICED in Beijing.

Ding Xuexiang emphasized China’s strong commitment to ecological civilization construction. Since the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, the Party Central Committee with Comrade Xi Jinping at its core has regarded ecological civilization construction as a fundamental strategy for the sustainable development of the Chinese nation. China has undertaken a series of groundbreaking initiatives, achieving unprecedented determination, strength, and results. The nation has embraced the concept of green development, waged a resolute battle against pollution, advanced green and low-carbon development, strengthened ecological protection and restoration, and made significant strides in the construction of a beautiful China. The skies are bluer, the land greener, and the waters clearer, leading to an increasing sense of satisfaction, happiness, and security among the people regarding the ecological environment.

Ding Xuexiang highlighted that in the new era and journey, China will accelerate the modernization of harmonious coexistence between humans and nature, guided by Xi Jinping’s ecological civilization thought. The nation will persistently fight against pollution, vigorously advance the three critical battles for blue skies, clean waters, and pure land, and continuously enhance the quality of the ecological environment. China will expedite the transition to green and low-carbon development modes, establish a solid foundation for high-quality development, increase efforts in ecological protection and restoration, and focus on improving the diversity, stability, and sustainability of ecosystems. China will actively and prudently advance carbon peaking and carbon neutrality, accelerate the planning and construction of a new energy system, improve relevant legal and institutional systems, refine economic policies for green and low-carbon development, and modernize the ecological environment governance system and capabilities. Upholding the concept of a community with a shared future for humanity, China will actively engage in global environmental governance, strengthen international cooperation in areas such as climate change, marine pollution control, and biodiversity conservation.

Ding Xuexiang stated that the Chinese government will continue to support the development and growth of CCICED and play a greater role. He hoped that all members and experts would enhance research and exchanges, actively contribute ideas to promote China’s environmental and development endeavors, and provide more wisdom and strength for building a clean and beautiful world.

The theme of this year’s CCICED annual meeting is “Empowering High-Quality Development with Green Initiatives and Promoting Modernization of Harmonious Coexistence between Humans and Nature.” Around 500 Chinese and foreign members, experts, and observers participated in the conference. Discussions and workshops were held on topics including biodiversity conservation, climate change mitigation, the construction of the Green Silk Road, and innovations in green finance.
