Fluctuations in Livestock Farming, Q3 2023 Results Revealed

The Korean Statistical Office released the results of the Livestock Trends Survey for the third quarter of 2023. According to the press release, as of September 1, 2023, there were various changes in the livestock numbers compared to the same period last year.

  • Hanwoo Cattle: The number decreased by 41,000 head (1.1%) compared to the same period last year, totaling 3,712,000 head.
  • Dairy Cows: A decrease of 4,000 head (1.0%) was observed, bringing the total to 386,000 head.
  • Pigs: The pig population increased by 72,000 head (0.6%), reaching a total of 1,139,800 head.
  • Laying Hens: An increase of 263,000 head (0.3%) was recorded, with a total of 76,126,600 head.
  • Meat Cattle: The population increased by 391,000 head (0.4%), totaling 8,985,400 head.
  • Ducks: The duck population decreased by 390,000 head (4.2%), reaching a total of 8,806,000 head.

These findings suggest a dynamic landscape in the livestock sector, with both growth and contraction observed in different categories.
