Finland’s Preliminary Population Exceeds 5.6 Million by October 2023

As of the end of October 2023, Finland’s preliminary population reached 5,599,869, according to preliminary data from Statistics Finland. The country experienced a population growth of 35,899 individuals from January to October 2023. The increase was primarily driven by net migration, with 48,433 more immigrants than emigrants. Additionally, there were 12,491 fewer births than deaths during this period.

This resulted in 19,001 more immigrants and 2,093 fewer emigrants compared to the same period in the previous year. Among the immigrants, 6,114 were Finnish citizens, and among the emigrants, 7,246 were Finnish citizens.

Inter-municipality migrations totaled 243,276 from January to October, showing a decrease of 11,563 compared to the same period in the previous year based on the 2023 municipal division.
