Statistics Sweden’s Investment Survey reveals a 6% surge in the investment pace among businesses during the third quarter of 2023 compared to the same period in 2022.
Key highlights from the survey indicate a total increase of 6%, equivalent to SEK 5.0 billion, in business investments during Q3 2023 compared to Q3 2022. Despite this positive trend, the overall investment figure for Q3 2023 is SEK 95.1 billion, reflecting a decline of SEK 15.0 billion or 14% from the preceding quarter.
Here’s a breakdown of investments by industry groups in Q3 2023 compared to Q3 2022:
- Industry (05-33): SEK 26.8 billion (18% increase)
- Energy, Water, and Sewage (35-39): SEK 13.9 billion (17% increase)
- Construction (41-43): SEK 2.9 billion (7% increase)
- Trade (45-47): SEK 5.3 billion (4% increase)
- Transportation and Storage (49 excluding 49.32, 51-53): SEK 4.9 billion (-18% decrease)
- InfoCom Companies excluding Film, Radio, and TV (58, 61-63): SEK 4.0 billion (5% increase)
- Banks and Insurance Companies (64.1, 65): SEK 5.0 billion (39% increase)
- Real Estate Companies (68 excluding 68.204): SEK 25.4 billion (-13% decrease)
- Business Services (71-75, 77-82): SEK 6.9 billion (38% increase)
The majority of industry groups witnessed an uptick in investments in Q3 2023 compared to Q3 2022. Notably, banks and insurance companies recorded the highest increase at 39%, reaching an investment level of SEK 5.0 billion. Conversely, the transport sector saw a decline of 18% in investments during the same period.
Despite the overall positive trajectory, all industry groups experienced a reduction in investments between Q2 and Q3 2023. The real estate sector exhibited the most substantial decrease, showing a downturn of 23%. The information and communication sector also reduced investments by 25%, while the transport sector saw a 20% decrease, reaching an investment level of SEK 4.9 billion.
