Spain’s Industrial Production Slightly Contracts in October 2023

The National Institute of Statistics of Spain has released the latest data on the Industrial Production Index (IPI) for the month of October 2023. Here are the key highlights from the results:

  1. Monthly Variation: The Industrial Production Index recorded a monthly variation of -0.5%, adjusted for seasonal and calendar effects.
  2. Annual Rate: In the series adjusted for seasonal and calendar effects, the annual rate of the IPI stood at -1.5%, indicating a decrease in industrial production compared to the same month of the previous year. In the original series, the annual rate was 0.9%.
  3. Sector Breakdown:
    • Consumer Goods: Experienced an annual variation of 1.8%, according to the original series, and a decrease of -1.0% in the adjusted series.
    • Capital Goods: Showed significant growth, with an annual variation of 5.6% in the original series and 2.8% in the adjusted series.
    • Intermediate Goods: Experienced an annual variation of 0.6% in the original series and a decrease of -1.7% in the adjusted series.
    • Energy: This sector underwent a significant decline, with an annual variation of -5.7% in the original series and -6.3% in the adjusted series.
