The recently concluded sixth edition of Italy’s Permanent Census of Population and Housing achieved a remarkable milestone with a record 93.2% response rate. Involving 2,531 municipalities and over 1 million families, this marks the highest level of participation since the initiation of the new era of Permanent Censuses in 2018.
Expressing appreciation, Istat President Francesco Maria Chelli highlighted the census’s vital role as a rich source of information, capturing key socio-economic characteristics of Italy’s resident population. The forthcoming results, to be disclosed in December 2024, will provide updated population data as of December 31, 2023, with additional insights into family structures and characteristics of foreign communities in major urban areas.
