CISA Issues Three New Guides to Address Unmanned Aircraft System Risks

CISA released three new guides to help critical infrastructure owners and operators mitigate risks from unmanned aircraft systems. The guides—Unmanned Aircraft System Detection Technology Guidance for Critical Infrastructure, Suspicious Unmanned Aircraft System Activity Guidance for Critical Infrastructure Owners and Operators, and Safe Handling Considerations for Downed Unmanned Aircraft Systems—are part of the agency’s Be Air Aware™ resources. Acting Director Madhu Gottumukkala said the guides empower owners and operators to better safeguard systems as UAS activity near critical sites rises. Executive Assistant Director Steve Casapulla noted the release supports Executive Order 14305 and helps protect vital assets from UAS threats. CISA developed the materials with government partners, industry experts and critical‑infrastructure stakeholders to integrate UAS considerations into existing security and emergency plans.
