Norway launches extensive cyber exercise Øvelse Digital

Norway has launched ‘Øvelse Digital’, a large‑scale national cyber exercise that will run for two days, involving around 60 government, private sector and military participants. The exercise is designed to test the nation’s ability to handle a complex digital incident that could disrupt critical services. It will examine coordination and communication across sectors, especially when usual tools fail. The drill is led by the Norwegian Defence Security Board (DSB) in close cooperation with the National Security Authority (NSM). DSB director Elisabeth Aarsæther said that Norway is strengthening military and civil preparedness amid a challenging security environment. NSM director Arne Christian Haugstøyl added that cyber incidents can bring society‑critical functions offline and that resilience must be exercised. Øvelse Digital is the first of a series of civil‑military exercises planned for the coming year, aimed at improving Norway’s ability to prevent and manage security crises.
