EU-funded project Sawian aims to prevent youth crime and radicalisation among 10‑22‑year‑olds with migrant backgrounds in Finland. From January 2023 to December 2025 the project works with 28 schools, reaching 77 individuals and 166 youths through group activities. It provides training for professionals on gang formation and radicalisation, and offers 424 counselling sessions to parents to help them support children navigating Finnish society and their home cultures. Activities are delivered in native languages and include sports such as football, basketball and gym training, which help improve school performance and reduce violence. Sawian is a joint initiative of the Finnish Refugee Council and Aseman Lapset, co‑funded by the Funding Centre for Social Welfare and Health Organisations and the EU Internal Security Fund. The €1 307 494 budget includes an EU contribution of €1 176 744.
