The European Commission has launched a public consultation inviting citizens, businesses, regional authorities and other stakeholders to shape a new EU framework on climate resilience set for adoption in late 2026. The consultation, open until 23 February 2026, follows the Commission’s Communication on Managing Climate Risks in Europe and the European Climate Risk Assessment, which warn that extreme weather events are increasing in damage and cost. The proposed framework aims to protect public health, reduce high-impact risks, strengthen preparedness at all societal levels and promote climate-resilient technologies. A summer 2025 call for evidence already saw strong support for bold measures such as resilience by design, nature-based solutions and stable long-term adaptation funding. Stakeholders are encouraged to submit feedback through the ‘Have Your Say’ portal.
