Airmen of the U.S. Air Force’s 449th Air Expeditionary Group completed readiness training in Djibouti during Exercise Pale Serpent, a joint effort with Army, Marine Corps, and Navy partners from December 26–29 2025. The exercise prepared units to respond to real‑world contingencies across East Africa by placing different 449th elements into parallel training scenarios that tested mission sets in a high‑tempo environment, from trauma care to aeromedical evacuation. At Chabelley Airfield, Air Force medical personnel treated simulated casualties alongside partner teams, practicing triage, stabilization and rapid decision‑making in a cramped setting. Meanwhile, the 10th Expeditionary Aeromedical Evacuation Flight practiced moving patients from the expeditionary medical facility to higher levels of care, employing a critical‑care air transport team and full evacuation capability. The exercise reinforced teamwork, communication and crisis readiness at one of U.S. Africa Command’s most operationally critical hubs.
