France Secures Two Saab GlobalEye Aircraft to Replace AWACS by 2035

France’s Direction Générale de l’Armement (DGA) has announced the procurement of two Saab GlobalEye airborne early‑warning and control aircraft under the SDCA program, following a letter of intent issued in June 2025. The aircraft, based on the Bombardier Global 6500 airframe, are slated to replace the four Boeing E‑3F AWACS by 2035, with deliveries expected by 2030. The contract covers training, support, maintenance and includes an option for two additional aircraft. GlobalEye combines active and passive sensors to detect and identify targets over air, sea and land, delivering real‑time situational awareness and early threat detection. The platform will support command and control for air operations and battlefield management, perform in degraded or contested environments, and strengthen the permanent air safety posture (PPS‑A). Purchasing two aircraft maintains continuous airborne surveillance, reinforces the France‑Sweden partnership, and supports joint industrial production.
