European Commission Publishes Summary of Consultation on Digital Markets Act Review

On 8 January 2026, the European Commission released a summary of the public consultation on the ongoing review of the Digital Markets Act (DMA). The consultation attracted more than 450 contributions from a wide range of stakeholders, including SMEs, gatekeepers, civil society organisations, academics and individual citizens. Respondents largely endorsed the DMA’s objectives and noted benefits already achieved. They called for stronger interoperability, data access and portability, greater support for SMEs, and an expanded scope to cover AI and cloud services. Gatekeepers expressed concerns about potential impacts on user experience and proportionality. The Commission will incorporate these views into a review report due 3 May 2026 for the European Parliament, the Council and the European Economic and Social Committee. The review is mandated every three years to ensure the DMA remains effective.
