EU and Jordan Hold First Summit to Strengthen Strategic Partnership

EU and Jordan hold first summit in Amman to strengthen strategic partnership

The leaders of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan and the European Union met on 8 January 2026 in Amman to launch a Strategic and Comprehensive Partnership, building on an Association Agreement and Partnership Priorities. The joint statement highlighted commitments to peace, security, prosperity, democracy, rule of law and human rights, and called for implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 2803 and a comprehensive approach to the Gaza conflict. It reaffirmed support for refugees, the United Nations Relief and Works Agency, and for Jordan’s economic resilience, announcing a €3 billion assistance package. The EU also pledged cooperation on trade, investment, security, energy transition, research, and the return of Syrian refugees, and agreed to hold the next summit in Brussels in 2028.
