EU Delegation Participates in IPBES Plenary on Business and Biodiversity

On 3 February 2026, EU delegates joined government representatives and experts at the 12th Plenary of the Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES) in Manchester, UK. The plenary, concluding on 8 February, adopted the Business and Biodiversity assessment report, developed over three years by 80 experts from 35 countries. The report offers recommendations to the private sector to enhance resilience and competitiveness while supporting a nature-positive economy. The EU welcomed five new IPBES members, including Iceland, Rwanda, and three EU states: Poland, Malta, and Cyprus. The EU’s research initiatives, funded under Horizon 2020 and Horizon Europe, support biodiversity assessments and include projects like GoNaturePositive and BIO-CAPITAL. The EU has contributed €9 million to IPBES’s Trust Fund and over €1 billion in biodiversity research under Horizon Europe, aligning with the European Green Deal and Global Biodiversity Framework.
