EU Imposes Anti-Dumping Duties on Chinese Candles

The European Commission has imposed anti-dumping duties of 56% to 60% on imports of candles, tapers and similar products from China, effective for five years. The measures follow an investigation finding that Chinese imports entered the EU at dumped prices, causing injury to domestic producers. The EU candle industry employs around 9,000 people across 80 companies. In 2025, Chinese imports accounted for 140,000 tonnes of the 170,000 tonnes of candles imported into the EU, valued at €1,700 million. Candles are used for interior and outdoor decoration. The duties aim to offset unfair competition while protecting EU producers.
