Hunterston B nuclear power station in North Ayrshire has transferred ownership from EDF to the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA). The NDA will decommission the site through its subsidiary Nuclear Restoration Services (NRS). The transfer marks the first of a series, with the next site, Hinkley Point B in Somerset, expected to transfer later in 2026. The NDA, trusted by the government, is responsible for safely, securely and sustainably decommissioning former UK nuclear sites and preparing them for future use. Over the next two decades the NDA’s mission will expand to include the decommissioning of all seven AGR power stations. The NDA will coordinate safety measures, environmental monitoring, and stakeholder engagement throughout the decommissioning process.
