New rateable values for more than two million non‑domestic properties took effect on 1 April 2026. The values, based on the cost of renting a property for a year on the valuation date of 1 April 2024, will be used to calculate business rates bills until 31 March 2029. Provisional values were published on 26 November 2025 to give businesses time to prepare for the new rates. Rateable values are updated every three years during a revaluation; only limited changes can be made after the valuation. Property owners can view their current value via the Find a business rates valuation service, and can check and challenge the figures if they believe them incorrect. For questions about bills, reliefs or payments, local councils should be contacted. The official 2026 statistics have been released, and the Valuation Office was established on 1 April 2026 following the integration of the former Valuation Office Agency into HM Revenue & Customs.
