SIA Introduces Updated Licence Requirements Effective 1 April 2026

On 1 April 2026 the Security Industry Authority (SIA) announced new requirements for close protection operatives and other security licence holders. From that date, close protection licence holders must have a ‘refresher’ qualification before renewal; they also must possess a Level 3 first‑aid qualification (FAW or equivalent) to register for the refresher training. The change follows an earlier 1 April 2025 rule that added the refresher requirement. In 2022 the SIA introduced an updated close protection qualification and required the new qualification or top‑up training for licence applications and renewals. For door supervisors and security guards, the 1 April 2025 rule also mandates a refresher qualification, backed by an up‑to‑date Emergency First Aid at Work qualification. The 2021 changes updated all other licence qualifications, requiring Emergency First Aid at Work and new or top‑up training before licence application or renewal.
