StatCan reports 4.4% year‑over‑year rise in machinery rental price index

Statistics Canada released its April 2022 price index for commercial and industrial machinery and equipment rental and leasing services. The index for Canada rose to 102.4 in April 2022, up from 98.1 in April 2021, representing a 4.4% year‑over‑year increase. Compared with March 2022, the index was 0.8% higher, after rising to 101.6 in March. In the same period, the rental and leasing index for construction, transportation, mining and forestry equipment was 101.0, up 3.8% from the previous year, while the index for office and other commercial and industrial machinery rose to 107.1, up 6.8% year‑over‑year. The data illustrate continued upward pressure on rental prices across the sector.
