UK Scholarships Head Meets Ugandan Partners to Expand Postgraduate Opportunities

Dr Emma Hennessey, head of the UK Scholarships Unit, visited Uganda in April 2026 to strengthen collaboration on the Chevening and Commonwealth scholarship programmes. She met senior officials at the Ministry of Education and Sports and discussed expanding postgraduate study opportunities, linking institutions and widening access to UK scholarships. Hennessey also met representatives of the Chevening Alumni Association of Uganda and Commonwealth alumni groups, who highlighted how skills gained in the UK are applied to inclusive education, refugee training, waste management and leadership development. The visit included a reception for the 2024 cohort of 17 Chevening and 25 Commonwealth scholars who have completed master’s and doctoral studies at UK universities. Uganda has been a Chevening partner since 1983, with 2,600 applications in 2025 and over 1,700 alumni since the 1960s.
