Rijkswaterstaat to Replace Radarsensor on Ameland Lighthouse

Rijkswaterstaat will replace the radarsensor on the Ameland lighthouse from 13 to 16 April 2026. The current radar is outdated and the new solid‑state sensor will maintain reliable coverage in the Wadden Sea, ensuring safe traffic management for vessels. Contractor Equans Infra & Energie will remove the old unit with a crane and install the new sensor. The work site is at Oranjeweg 57 in Hollum; the road nearby will be partially closed and traffic will be directed by controllers. The museum housed in the lighthouse will be closed during the operation. If weather conditions are adverse, the work may be postponed to 20‑24 April 2026. This project is part of a broader effort to modernise radars on several Wadden lighthouses.
