UK Adds Over 3,000 Neighbourhood Police Ahead of Target

The UK government has placed more than 3,000 additional neighbourhood police officers and police community support officers into community roles, meeting the target two months ahead of schedule. Since April last year, 3,123 officers and PCSOs have been hired or redeployed to focus on local crime. The Winter of Action campaign, running in December and January, saw almost 18,000 arrests across more than 600 towns and cities. Of these, over 5,000 were for retail crime, more than 10,000 for violent assault, and around 1,000 for sexual offences and street crime. The early delivery of extra officers marks a milestone in the Neighbourhood Policing Guarantee, which aims to add 13,000 personnel by the end of the parliamentary term and strengthen community policing.
