The British High Commission in Kuala Lumpur hosted the ‘Leading the Future’: Women and Girls in Science Forum on 30 March 2026. The event celebrated women scientists and examined structural barriers that limit women’s progress into leadership roles in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). High Commissioner Ajay Sharma CMG opened the forum, reaffirming the UK’s commitment to an inclusive STEM ecosystem in Malaysia, supporting women’s representation across projects and career stages. The program included opening remarks from Dato’ Ts Dr Nagulendran Kangayatkaras, Secretary General of Malaysia’s Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation, and a keynote by Dr Ravigadevi Sambanthamurthi FRS, Malaysia’s first elected Fellow of the UK’s Royal Society. Around 110 participants, including government officials, academics, senior science leaders, STEM teachers and entrepreneurs, attended.
