UK opens competition to expand Northern Ireland Special Advocates panel

The Government Legal Department has opened a competition to expand the Northern Ireland Special Advocates panel. It targets junior barristers and Solicitor Advocates on the Northern Ireland Roll with at least five years of advocacy experience and judicial review experience; silk applicants are excluded. A Special Advocate represents the excluded party in Closed Material Proceedings, reviewing material withheld on national security grounds, and works with the Special Advocates’ Support Office. Applicants must obtain Developed Vetting clearance. The application process is detailed in the information for candidates form and FAQ sheet, which can be requested by emailing SpecialAdvocatesRecruitment@governmentlegal.gov.uk. An online information session with the Advocate General, SASO and a current panel member will take place on Tuesday 14 April at 5.30 p.m.; interested parties should contact the email for joining instructions.
