21% of EU workers worked weekends in 2025

An EU statistical report released on 1 May 2026 shows that 21.3% of employed people aged 15-64 usually worked on weekends in 2025. The share was highest among service and sales workers (47.6%) and skilled agricultural, forestry and fishery workers (47.2%), and lower among elementary occupations (25.7%). Overall, only 18.5% of employees usually worked during weekends. Self‑employed people had higher rates: 45.8% for those with employees and 35.9% for those without employees, while 45.1% of contributing family workers worked on weekends. Country‑level variations were wide; Greece led among employees (31.5%), followed by Cyprus (31.3%) and Malta (29.2%). The lowest rates were in Lithuania (3.0%), Poland (4.2%) and Hungary (6.2%).
