April 2026 Consumer Prices Rise 1.2% Monthly, 2.8% Annually

April 2026 consumer price index (NIC) rose 1.2% on a monthly basis and 2.8% annually, according to preliminary estimates. The increase is largely driven by a 9.9% rise in non‑regulated energy prices, a 5.7% rise in regulated energy prices, and a 6.0% increase in unprocessed food items. Service prices grew more slowly, with recreational, cultural, and personal care services rising 2.6% and transport services 0.5%. Core inflation, excluding energy and fresh foods, slowed to 1.6% from 1.9%, while core energy‑only inflation fell to 2.0% from 2.1%. Annual inflation for goods rose to 3.2%, services fell to 2.4%, giving a negative differential of 0.8 percentage points. The harmonised consumer price index (IPCA) increased 1.7% monthly and 2.9% yearly.
