A new Statistics Norway report shows that most students who finish upper secondary school with university admission certification begin higher education within seven years. The study followed 37,700 students who graduated in 2018 through 2024. About 40% enrolled directly in autumn 2018, and 84% had started by autumn 2020. Those who entered later—3,150 people—were called late transitions, while 2,800 never entered higher education during the period. Activity mapping revealed that older students were more likely NEETs or in other education the year after graduation, whereas employment became the most common activity in later years. Late entrants were often employed or taking private exams, and application rates dropped over time.
