Nick Pickard appointed as UK’s Ambassador to Austria

Nicholas Peter Pickard has been appointed the United Kingdom’s new Ambassador to the Republic of Austria, succeeding Lindsay Skoll, who will become Principal of Jesus College at the University of Oxford. Pickard will assume his post in July 2026. He has held senior positions in the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office, including Director of Europe since 2023, and has served as Deputy Permanent Representative to NATO in Brussels and Deputy Head of Mission in Berlin. Earlier in his career he worked in the Ministry of Defence and the Foreign & Commonwealth Office on security policy and European affairs. The Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office issued the appointment on 1 May 2026.
