The Ministry of Defence and Veterans UK announced that the previously unnamed graves of Captain Gordon Cuthbert and Lieutenant Leslie Harvey, both killed on 25 April 1915 near Ypres, have been identified and their headstones replaced with names. The Joint Casualty and Compassionate Centre, known as the “War Detectives”, conducted research that linked the bodies recovered in 1920 and 1929 to the two officers. Rededication services were held on 29 April 2026 at Tyne Cot Cemetery for Cuthbert and Sanctuary Wood Cemetery for Harvey, attended by soldiers from the Princess of Wales’s Royal Regiment and led by Padre Victoria Day. The Commonwealth War Graves Commission will maintain the graves in perpetuity. The announcement came on 29 April 2026.
